The work of Özlem Sulak embraces the personal and political in subtle and equal measure: all of her film works and installations articulate personal perspective and represent public discourse while asserting their elemental reciprocity.
In Sinop she will present a new work, based on Jean-Paul Sartre telegraph sent to the Writer’s Syndicate of Turkey in 1977. Sartre was voicing his dismay about the banned books and offering his support. During the coup there was an unknown fire at the Union Française building where the office of the Writer’s Syndicate of Turkey was located, destroying the archives. Özlem  will send the –now inexistent- telegraph with her newly acquired skills in French. Apart from this she will also present the video work “Verborgene Bücher”, (Hidden Books). It shows the gesture of covering books which were forbidden. In this case, Özlem Sulak refers of a father and his daughter who were covering books in the former GDR.
