The Sinopale, International Biennial, which holds a significant place in Sinop’s contemporary art scene, will be organized for the ninth time this year between September 23 and October 31, 2024. The biennial, held under the title "Before All Runs Out: Cosmos of New Values" will focus on themes of ecology, cyclicity, and sustainability this year.
Co-curated by Melike Bayık, Deniz Erbaş, İpek M. Sür, Nil İlkbaşaran, and Hal Collective, the biennial’s production process will begin on September 23rd, with the main exhibition opening to visitors on October 11, 2024. In addition to the exhibition, there will be film screenings, performances, workshops, and gatherings of international cultural and art enthusiasts in various venues and public spaces across Sinop.
Sinopale 9, aims to foster dialogues that will help us recognize the transformations happening worldwide by addressing the transformative power of art within the framework of sustainability and cyclic approaches. Sinopale invites everyone to collectively consider the urgent situations we need to become aware of "before depletion," the measures we need to take, and the new values we need to create, in a participatory and process-focused manner, as in previous editions.
The Sinopale International Sinop Biennial is an international event organized by the Sinop Sustainable Development Association with the support and collaboration of many organizations, private individuals, and the people of Sinop, especially the Sinop Municipality. It is a model of "art production based on sharing," bringing together civil society to develop cultural and artistic dialogue in the context of local development.
Held biennially, Sinopale aims for citizens of all ages to reimagine their living spaces with a vision for the future, think about urban issues, share common historical memory, and arrange it in a way that contributes to art production, with the goal of creating a better social living environment through urban, national, and international collaboration.
Since its inception in 2006, Sinopale has focused on local culture and memory, adopting the “imece method of art” and working with the people of Sinop, drawing them into an international artistic event. It has become a common meeting, thinking, and production space for local and foreign artists, curators, and the people of Sinop.
