Site-Specific Installation, Iron, each letter 120x200 cm
The public space works of Mariam Natroshvili and Detu Jincharadze are site-specific and designed according to the characteristics of the location. The artists usually choose words that can be visualized in text form and leave the interpretation of these words to the audience. If we think of each place as a story or a book, the words of Mariam and Detu function like the titles of these books.
In Sinop, with the contribution of the Georgian Association, they conducted a workshop with Georgian and Turkish people to create a socially participatory word. During the workshop, they discussed with the local community how they remember the past and how they imagine the future, expressing the city’s identity through the voices of its citizens. The HAL building, where the workshop was held, became the space where the word "MEMORY" created through this process was placed.
The history of the HAL building and its function as a public space contributed to establishing a strong connection between the artwork and the building. The word "MEMORY" captures Sinop’s identity by reflecting the memories and aspirations of the community. Thanks to this collaborative art project, the city has become a narrative shaped by its inhabitants, and the HAL building hosts a collective story spanning its past, present, and future.
We extend our gratitude to the Sinop Georgian Culture and Friendship Association.
