Olives Series
2024-

Ink on handwoven linen fabric, pruned olive branches
50x260 cm, 50x365 cm, 50x260 cm triptych

The Olives Series, which began when Fulya Çetin moved her studio to Olympos, is an extension of her work that focuses on the cycles of plants and trees, approached with a sensitivity that both observes and integrates with nature. This series, which started with this initial work in Sinop, brings together the unique and local olive trees of each region with natural weaving and traditional fabrics. In the series, Fulya employs a spraying technique that allows her to create original motifs from the cut, pruned branches she places on fabrics made from fibers like linen, silk, and cotton, which are obtained from nature. In doing so, she records the projections of time and space. With an ecofeminist sensitivity, Fulya creates a visual language that reflects concepts such as land, place, borders, space, home, belonging, harmony, permanence, ownership, and hospitality, using olive branches, which symbolize peace, and projecting them onto textiles produced by the hand labor of women.

*This work was produced with the support of SAHA as part of Sinopale 9.
