Lives and works in Samsun
ROOT
2019 - 2024
Found objects, bone and wood fragments, 312 pieces
Aytekin Olgunsoy, who has long worked with repurposed materials, is featured at Sinopale 9 with his new series titled ROOT. After his previous works with archaeological debris and ceramic remnants, this time Olgunsoy presents a thematic installation using animal bones and driftwood from the sea. This return to primal materials serves almost as a final reminder. The series, consisting of 300 pieces, conveys the sense that these primitive yet powerful forms are part of daily life. While these objects resemble weapons or tools, they also evoke a rough yet elegant calligraphy.
In the artist's work, animistic references to the past stand out, but rather than conveying a didactic message, they create an atmosphere closer to primal poetry. Olgunsoy’s works bring the nature of lived objects back to life: roots take one last breath, bones meet with blood, offering viewers a moment of ‘caution.’ In an era where humanity has become disconnected from nature, technology transforms us, and artificial intelligence rapidly evolves, Olgunsoy’s works stand as a powerful call to return to our essence and roots.
